Desciption :

Influenza (flu) vaccines (often called “flu shots”) are vaccines that protect against the four influenza viruses are most common during the upcoming season.  A yearly flu vaccine is the best way to protect your child from flu and its potentially serious complications.

 

Age Criteria :

Minimum of 6 months and older.

 

Dose & Interval :

3 doses

  • Interval: Yearly.                            
  • Children 6 months through 8 years getting a flu vaccine for the first time, and those who have only previously gotten one dose of flu vaccine, should get two doses of vaccine. The first dose should be given as soon as vaccine becomes available.     
  • Children age 9 to 18 years should receive one dose of the vaccine yearly 

 

Contra-Indication :

Children younger than 6 months of age are too young to get a flu shot. People with severe, life-threatening allergies to any ingredient in a flu vaccine (other than egg proteins) should not get that vaccine. This might include gelatin, antibiotics, or other ingredients.

 

Adverse Effect :

Soreness, redness, and/or swelling from the shot, headache, fever.
